SpeedShack
was founded
19 years ago in september 1990 by the current owner Steve
Law. Its beginnings were in a15x15 sq.foot area in the back
of a car sales showroom in Hayes Town, Middx, called 'Ed
Turners' who specialised in sales of Modified Road
Cars, Kit Cars and Street Rods. Steve had managed the car
showroom for 3 years before setting up shop for himself
selling used sports-parts, Custom parts and performance Ford parts, rather than cars this time, initially on the same premises. This was outgrown within 12 months and following that the first SpeedShack shop opened in Yiewsley High Street near Heathrow on the canal bridge. This lasted about a year before outgrowing that too, then the last shop was further along the same High Street and SpeedShack stayed there for 17 years. In 2008 this shop was closed and the business now trades from a unit behind that original shop with a large yard and storage outbuildings.
Steve was influenced early
on by 1980's Custom Car shows, Chelsea Cruise & the
Drag Racing scene (which was heavily involved with having Drag-Raced the SPEEDSHACK RACING red Mk1 Escort 4.5ltr V8 for many years in the Rover V8 Challenge in the 1990's with much success), and
magazines of the time such as Street Machine & Custom
Car & CCC. Steve had always been heavily into modified cars
since leaving school, and rarely had enough spare cash to
buy all new parts. He had regularly been frustrated trying
to find those lucrative sports parts in breakers yards for
the car he was fixing up at the time. So the idea was to
set up shop buying & selling second-hand sports parts
for popular cars, particularly Fords, to help people such
as himself, and save endless trips to the breakers and repying
to free ads only to find the part they wanted was sold...
SpeedShack
has been on the current site for 17 years, and in 2010 we will celebrate our 20th anniversary. Although
still housed in a a relatively small unit, the shop carries a huge
and fascinating range of New and Used Fast Road & Motorsport
parts for viewing and collection by appointment, with mail order and internet sales now a very important part of the business. Its description as 'An Aladdins cave of Road and
Motorsport parts' is particularly well deserved.
SpeedShack advertise
on the internet and CLASSIC FORD Magazine.
Our MAIL ORDER
department is now a major part of the SpeedShack business.
We believe our
major advantage over large chain stores is a better and
more personal service with good advice, which in an enthusiast
driven market is essential, especially if we are to expect
repeat custom and verbal and internet forum recommendations. We aim to give
a friendly and helpful service, and althougth sales are
our reason for being, we like to think that at SpeedShack
you will be treated as a person and not a walking wallet.
